Occurrence of depressive symptoms and anxiety in individuals with fi bromyalgia

Introduction: Fibromyalgia (FM) is classified as a clinical rheumatic syndrome commonly associated with painful sites with high sensitivity to pain when rubbed (tender points), and for diffuse and chronic musculoskeletal pain. Comorbidities include depression and anxiety symptoms.Objective: to investigate symptoms of anxiety and depression in individuals with FM participating in the Facebook page “Support Group for People with FM”. Material and methods: This is a descriptive study with individuals from different states in Brazil. The Beck Depression Inventory tests and the Hamilton Anxiety Scale were applied. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze variables. Results: The study sample consisted of 132 individuals with FM. The results obtained show a high prevalence of depressive symptoms (68.1%) in patients with FM. Individuals have anxiety symptoms with medium-high intensity (29.8 ± 11.8).Conclusions: Considering FM and its resulting comorbidities and diffuse musculoskeletal pains that interfere with the quality of life of FM patients, there were a large number of fi bromyalgia patients who develop depressive and anxiety symptoms.
