Resumo: This article presents the emigration and immigration of northern Minas Gerais mesoregion inrelation to other mesoregions. The database was the 2010 Demographic Census of the BrazilianInstitute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The methodological approach consisted ofbibliographic survey, data processing of the 2010 Census and map elaboration. The North ofMinas Gerais covers eighty nine municipalities, which economy is primarily based onagriculture and stock breeding except Montes Claros, Pirapora, Bocaiuva and Várzea da Palmaharboring the industrial sector and strong trade network. Montes Claros is a regional hub withmore specialized, educational, health, financial, legal services, so the biggest populationattraction place of the mesoregion. The 2010 Demographic Census showed that the emigrationin the North of Minas Gerais is bigger for the Metropolitan mesoregions of Belo Horizonte andTriângulo Mineiro / Alto Paranaíba. The municipalities of Montes Claros and Pirapora excel innumber of emigrants. Regarding immigration the greatest number of individuals is of theMetropolitan mesoregion of Belo Horizonte, but all the mesoregions sent individuals to theNorth of Minas Gerais. Emigration is exceeding immigration and migration is also significantamong municipalities in the North of Minas Gerais.

A base de dados foi o Censo Demográfico de 2010 do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE). A abordagem metodológica consistiu em levantamento bibliográfico, tratamento dos dados do Censo de 2010 e elaboração de mapas. O Norte de Minas abrange oitenta e nove municípios, cuja economia é basicamente agropecuária, com exceção de Montes Claros, Pirapora, Bocaiúva e Várzea da Palma que abrigam setor industrial e forte rede de comércio. Montes Claros é polo regional com serviços mais especializados, educacional, de saúde, financeiro, jurídico, portanto local de maior atração populacional da mesorregião. O Censo Demográfico de 2010 apontou que a emigração do Norte de Minas é maior para as mesorregiões Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte e Triângulo Mineiro / Alto Paranaíba. Os municípios de Montes Claros e Pirapora se destacam em número de emigrantes. Quanto à imigração a maior quantidade de indivíduos é da mesorregião Metropolitana de Belo Horizonte, mas todas as mesorregiões enviaram indivíduos para o Norte de Minas.
