Analysis of land use and land cover changes in the municipality of Araçuaí, Minas Gerais by means of remote sensing techniques in the years 2000 and 2019

Resumo: The study aimed to analyze the changes in land use and land cover in the municipality of Araçuaí, Minas Gerais, through satellite images obtained by remote sensing. The images used were from the Landsat 5 satellite, TM sensor, referring to the year 2000 and Landsat 8, OLI sensor, relative to the year 2019. The ArcGIS 10.8 software was used for the digital processing of the images and the supervised classification, from the samples selected in the images. Four land use classes were established: dense vegetation, undergrowth, exposed soil/urbanized area, and water bodies. For the period studied, the results show a reduction in the classes dense vegetation (1,49%), undergrowth (6,32%) and water bodies (0,25%), and consequently, expansion of the class exposed soil /urbanized area (8,07%). In this sense, it is highlighted that remote sensing techniques constitute as an important tool for prior knowledge and continuous monitoring of the changes occurring in the landscape, contributing to actions of planning, land-use planning and environmental preservation in the municipality.

Las imágenes utilizadas fueron del satélite Landsat 5, sensor TM, referidas al año 2000 y Landsat 8, sensor OLI, relativas al año 2019. Se utilizó el software ArcGIS 10.8 para el procesamiento digital de las imágenes y la clasificación supervisada, a partir de las muestras seleccionadas en las imágenes. Se establecieron cuatro clases de uso del suelo: vegetación densa, vegetación baja, suelo expuesto/zona urbanizada y masas de agua. Para el periodo estudiado los resultados apuntan a la reducción de las clases vegetación densa (1,49%), vegetación baja (6,32%) y masas de agua (0,25%), y en consecuencia, a la expansión de la clase suelo expuesto/área urbanizada (8,07%). En este sentido, se destaca que las técnicas de teledetección constituyen una importante herramienta para el conocimiento previo y el seguimiento continuo de los cambios que se producen en el paisaje, contribuyendo a las acciones de planificación, ordenación del territorio y preservación del medio ambiente en el municipio.O estudo objetivou analisar as mudanças no uso e ocupação do solo no município de Araçuaí, Minas Gerais, através de imagens de satélite obtidas por meio do sensoriamento remoto. As imagens utilizadas foram do satélite Landsat 5, sensor TM, referente ao ano 2000 e Landsat 8, sensor OLI, relativo ao ano de 2019. Utilizou-se o software ArcGIS 10.8 para o processamento digital das imagens e a classificação supervisionada, a partir das amostras selecionadas nas imagens. Foram estabelecidas quatro classes de uso do solo: vegetação densa, vegetação rasteira, solo exposto/área urbanizada e corpos d’água. Para o período estudado os resultados apontam redução das classes vegetação densa (1,49%), vegetação rasteira (6,32%) e corpos d’água (0,25%), e consequentemente, expansão da classe solo exposto/área urbanizada de (8,07%).
