Assessing the natural vulnerability to loss of soil and environmental fragility in the river basin Santa Rita (DF-GO)

The goal of this survey was to create the summary map of the natural vulnerability to loss of soil and environmental frailty of the Santa Rita Stream Drainage Basin, located between the Federal District and the State of Goiás. The basin has been occupied by farming activities on a large scale, with heavy exploitation of natural resources and intensive transformation of the landscape. The confection of the maps was based on the State Geoinformation System of Goiás (SIEG) geocartography database, MapBiomas Project, SRTM images and well-established methodologies for Integrated Studies of the Landscapes in the Brazil of Crepani et al (2001) and Ross (1994). The integrated analysis of the basin allowed the attainment of summarized products of environmental dynamics that feature varying levels of vulnerability / frailty. Since the 1980’s, the basin has lost almost 60% of its Cerrado area. An increase in the grains monoculture areas was observed to the prejudice of pasture lands. The vulnerability and frailty maps that were drawn reveal the complexity of producing mathematical models. The methods indicate that most of the basin has a medium level of vulnerability/frailty. Both methods are important for different purposes of spatial analysis of reality and production of models that aim to identify vulnerabilities and potentialities of natural and anthropic environments, producing essential information for environmental planning.
