Resumo: The present piece of work consists of an overview from studies concerning combat sports, and brings up social and cultural aspects involved in the performance of these sports. It consisted of a qualitative analysis of 9 studies that achieved to identify representative categories of social and cultural features. It was found that sacrifice rituals, body building, pain resistance, gender matters and tradition endurance are important social and cultural aspects that prevail on studies of combat sports practice.

Tratou-se de uma análise qualitativa de 09 trabalhos, cujo resultado foi a identificação de categorias representativas de aspectos socioculturais.
