With the development of tissue adhesives based on cyanoacrylate at the end of the 40s studies began on its applicability in the synthesis of wounds with the aim to replace traditional techniques for procedures more practical, inexpensive and painless that would guarantee the same cosmetics and functional results of sutures. Despite the great tension force provided by the first cyanoacrylates compounds, the biotoxicity of these materials permitted their use about thirty year later, after the development of long-chain compounds such as ethyl and octyl-cyanoacrylate. Currently, the use of cyanoacrylates has become a promising area of maxillofacial surgery, supported by several clinical and experimental studies, which have proven the effectiveness and functional aesthetics of such adhesives.
