Descarte de resíduos de serviços de saúde por cirurgiões-dentistas em consultórios particulares no município de Marília-SP

Mismanagement of health service waste affect society and the environment, therefore adequate information on their management is very important in the education of health professional. The objective of this study was to assess the knowledge of dentists about the correct way to dispose of health service waste in their offices. It is a cross-sectional descriptive study in which questionnaires were applied, based on the standards of CONAMA and ANVISA for 90 registered private dentists in the Regional Council of Dentistry of Marília-SP. The survey was conducted in accordance with the ethical dictates. The professionals who participated were 52 females and 38 males, with ages ranging 22-66 years and in various specialties. Most (91%) claimed to have received information on health service waste, graduation or scientific events courses. With respect to the segregation of knowledge on health residues services, the results show that 80% could respond that are separated not to mix with the other, 15.6% believe that must be separated only for the organization and 4.4% which is for reuse. Was asked if it is true that the descarpack should not stay on the floor or on a countertop sink offices, 91% agreed responding to true. They were asked about the disposal of residual mercury amalgam, resulting in 92% of right answers and 8% did not know. As for the proper disposal of the device to suck and used gloves, 47% answered incorrectly. About the proper way to dispose RX fixer 19% do not know how to proceed and 3% answered wrong. It was concluded that knowledge of dentists on the disposal of health residues services is flawed. This reflects the need to train professionals in a satisfactory manner and propose better management of health service waste alternatives, avoiding exposing the community to contamination risks, protecting people who work directly with these residues against industrial accidents and preserving the environment
