Resumo: This paper aims to register the creation and development of the artist’s book “Opera Inutile”, revealing its context and presenting research about the themes present in the work. The Greek myths of Aracne, Minotaur, Medusa, Chiron, and Argus are considered, as well as the biblical stories of Cain and Job, investigating how the matter of theodicy and divine justice may be present in these tales. It also analyzes pessimism and offers a secular option to the topics, looking to the figure of the hard-boiled detective and Greek tragedy. It approaches the life and work of Aby Warburg, exposing his intellectual nomadism and revealing its importance to the research. Still, presents five possibilities of comparative mythology, as well as introduces the hypothesis of Indo-European mythos, allowing the development of the themes approached previously. Finally, it registers the conception and making process of the artistic work, showing materials, sketches, and the iconography resulting from the process.
