Resumo: Tambaqui is a native species with an omnivorous food habit that allows the use of different energy sources, which can result in a protein saving effect and consequently in cost reduction. Feeding in fish farming is the biggest challenge of this activity, representing more than 70% of the final cost of production. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the productive performance and carcass composition of tambaquis (Colossoma macropomum Curvier 1818) fed with energy ingredients. A total of 208 juvenile tambaqui with an average initial weight of 110 g were used, randomly distributed in 24 boxes of 300 L (8 fish/tank) arranged in a closed system of water recirculation. Six experimental diets containing different energy foods were formulated: corn, sorghum, corn starch, wheat bran, rice bran and broken rice. Fish were fed the experimental diets until apparent satiety for 57 days in three meals a day. The variables calculated in productive performance were final weight, final length, daily weight gain, protein efficiency rate and average consumption, while in the carcass composition, dry matter, mineral matter, crude protein and crude energy were analyzed. The experimental design was completely randomized with six treatments (corn, sorghum, corn starch, wheat bran, rice bran and broken rice) and four replications per treatment. The results, after testing for normality and homogeneity of variance, were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's test (5%) to compare means. In the results we found statistical differences only in the parameters of final weight, protein efficiency rate and mineral matter, where we can conclude that corn starch and corn are good energy foods for tambaqui.
