Resumo: Amongst the various manifestations of popular culture in the State of Pernambuco, the musical kind ―frevo is one of large relevance, mainly in the city of Recife. The frevo continues to maintain itself, full of fun, beauty and history and led by anonymous carnaval dancers since its beginning in the groups ―Ursos de carnaval, ―Caboclinhos, ―Bumba-meu-boi, ―Cavalo Marinho and others. This study presents the historic and stylistic aspects of the frevo and investigates its manifestation in the cultural aspect in the main representative niches of the city of Recife, using as reference the musicians and researchers of the moment. It highlights the work of the Escola de Frevo Maestro Fernando Borges, showing how this school has been divulging the local Popular Culture as well as educating hundreds of students in the language of music and dance the "passo"
