Produção científica sobre eventos: análise bibliométrica entre 2000 e 2019

Seeking to systematize scientific knowledge about the events sector, this article presents bibliometric research carried out in twenty journals in the field of Tourism, considering articles published in Portuguese and Spanish, published between 2000 and 2019. In the 2000s, scientific research on the theme has achieved intense international growth. However, in the national context, academic production on events is still considered scarce and focused on planning and organization. In the twenty investigated journals, 324 articles on events were found. The majority being about cultural events and mega sporting events. The number of articles identified has grown progressively since 2013. However, only 4.9% of the total sample of articles published by the journals addressed the theme. Thus, it is considered that the publication of studies on events is still minimal in the area of Tourism and Hospitality. The research presented the beginning of a process of diversifying scientific production on events, but there is a gap between academic production and the development of the event market, especially in relation to the type of event that needs to be investigated. Commercial and social events were ignored by the scientific knowledge of the area, until then.
