Resumo: The paper focuses reports of homeless children about their experience of living in shelters. It's a part of one research of which purpose was to allow the street children themselves, on São Paulo city, to express their representation about their life's trajectory. The data, gathered by individual interviews, were organise according to the method of the Analysis of Contents and principles of the theory of the Social Representation. The categories detached from the speech transcript, were grouped into meaningful experiences for the children, among which "the shelters". The analyse of this category showed clearly that the lack of a personal and affectionate attendance in the shelters contributes to the children choosing to stay in the streets.

Comprende parte de una investigación, cuyo objetivo fue captar como los niños sin hogar, viviendo en las caller de la ciudad de São Paulo, representan su trayectoria de vida. Los datos, recolectados en entrevistas individuales, fueron analizados según el método del Análisis de Contenido y principios de la teoria de la Representación Social. Las categorias, destacadas de las entrevistas transcriptas, fueron reunidas en experiencias significativas a los niños, entre ellas, "los asilos". El análisis de esa categoria evidenció que la falta de una atención más personalizada y más afectiva en los asilos resulta en la decisión de los niños de permanecer en las calles.O artigo versa sobre relatos de crianças de/na rua quanto à experiência de viver em abrigos. Compreende parte de uma investigação, cujo objetivo consistiu em apreender como crianças em situação de rua, na cidade de São Paulo, representam sua trajetória de vida. Os dados, coletados em entrevistas individuais, foram organizados segundo o método de Análise de Conteúdo e preceitos da teoria da Representação Social. As categorias destacadas do discurso transcrito foram agrupadas em experiências significativas para as crianças, entre as quais "os abrigos".
