Resumo: OBJECTIVE: To verify the association between physical activity level and prevalence of falls in the elderly of Francisco Beltrão/PR.METHODS: A study conducted with 305 elderly, mean age 69,09±7,05 years, residing in Francisco Beltrão. The instrument used to analyze the level of habitual physical activity (NAFH) was the IPAQ questionnaire, in its short version, in which questions were asked regarding falls in the last 12 months. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the sample and the chi-square test was used to verify the association between NAFH and falls. The statistical program SPSS version 20.0 was used, and the level of significance adopted was P<0,05.RESULTS: It was identified that of the total of 305 elderly, 66,9% were classified as more active and 33,1% as less active for NAFH. For the question regarding falls in the last 12 months, the prevalence of falls was 27,2%. Of these 305 elderly people evaluated, 27,2% (n=83) reported having suffered at least one fall in the last year, of which 56 were classified as more active, and 27 were classified as less active. Significant associations between NAFH and falls in the elderly of this study were not identified (P>0,05).CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant association between falls reported by the elderly in the last 12 months and NAFH.
