OBJECTIVE: To assess the quality of life of people with chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis treatment.METHODS: This is an exploratory, descriptive and quantitative research, carried out in the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. The target audience was 176 patients whose renal replacement therapy modality is hemodialysis. For data collection, a structured interview was used and a Sociodemographic Questionnaire and a questionnaire on the quality of life of chronic kidney patients (Brazilian Version of the Your Health and Well-being- renal disease and Quality of Life Questionnaire) (KDQOL-SF™ 1.3) were applied. The sociodemographic data were summarized using descriptive statistics. To operationalize the analysis, data from the Kidney Disease and Quality of Life Short Form 1.3 were entered and analyzed in the KDQOL-SF™ 1.3 Scoring Program Software (v3.0).RESULTS: Percentages lower than the mean of the KDQOL-SFTM instrument were found in the following domains: burden of kidney disease (48.79%), work status (25.57%), physical function (37.07%) and emotional function (44.89%). The domains with the best results were sexual function (87.98%) and encouragement from the dialysis team (82.17%).CONCLUSIONS: Quality of life was shown to be reduced in this population and was negatively associated with the burden of kidney disease, work status, physical function, and emotional function.
