Resumo: This study intends to explain convergent points between Paulo Freire andAnísio Teixeira during the period from 1959 to 1969. For that, the texts of Freire produced inthat time taken as research sources are: Educação e atualidade brasileira and Educação comoprática da liberdade. Comparing Anísio and Freire it becomes possible to observe important convergences between them, as for the education role in the constitution of democratic habitsand in the construction of a democratic society through great educative efforts. Such closenessis very perceptible up to the second work of Freire, Educação como prática da liberdade, being less evident in his subsequent works. As Freire produces new texts and participates innew political and educative experiences with peasants in Chile, his reflections give priority tothemes as the severance among oppressors and downtrodden people and the revolution as acultural action.

Para tanto, são tomados como fonte os textos de FreireEducação e atualidade brasileira e Educação como prática da liberdade. O cotejo das idéias de Anísio e Freire permite observar importantes convergências entre ambos, quanto ao papelda educação na formação dos hábitos democráticos e da construção da sociedade democrática,por meio de grandes esforços educativos. Tal proximidade é bastante perceptível até a segundaobra freireana, Educação como prática da liberdade, ficando menos evidente nas obras posteriores.
