Resumo:  The study here presented has the goal of testing cytotoxic and genotoxic potential in cells cycle of Allium cepa L., Pisum sativum L. and Abelmoschus esculentus L. when it is exposed to five wells water of Alta Floresta – MT. The wells were located close to the graveyard and domestic cesspools of Alta Floresta city. The roots of the bulbs and the seeds remained in contact with the well water for 24, 48 and 72 hours. Data obtained with this study showed that the water from this habitats presented cytotoxic and genotoxic potential in tested organisms. It demonstrated high induction potential in these cells cycle, showing chromosomal anomalies. Although A. chusesculentus also presented cell mutagen and cytotoxic effects, bioindicators A. cepa and P. sativum were the most sensitive to the tests when all the five wells water tested showed modificated chromosomal results, with frequency of micronucleus, degraded cells and chromosomal blocks formation. This result can be related to the soil composition together with contaminants or it can be due to influences in drained substances by the groundwater. Considering that in wet season there is a carrying of cytotoxic substances by the rain water, it can cause elements concentration in the wells water.
