Resumo: The development of occlusion is a complex process which involves knowledge about craniofacial growth and development, being mandatory for every dentist, even those who do not work with orthodontics. Since Pediatric Dentists are usually the first to have contact with patients, they must be able to diagnose characteristics in the deciduous and mixed dentition, which contribute or not for the development of a healthy permanent occlusion. This research project aimed to evaluate the extent of knowledge of Pediatric Dentists in identifying normal occlusion and malocclusions. To this end, an online survey was held and sent by email to every dental surgeon with a major in Pediatric Dentistry registered in the CRO-SC. The survey contained questions on training and professional performance and also on some clinical cases of patients about deciduous and mixed dentition. The answers were tabulated and analyzed using software.

Visto que os Odontopediatras normalmente são os primeiros a terem contato com os pacientes, os mesmos devem estar aptos a diagnosticar características na dentição decídua e mista, que contribuam ou não para o desenvolvimento de uma oclusão permanente saudável. Esse estudo objetivou avaliar o grau de conhecimento de Odontopediatras de Santa Catarina na identificação da oclusão normal e maloclusões. Para isso, foi realizado um questionário online, enviado via e-mail a todos os cirurgiões dentistas com especialidade em Odontopediatria inscritos no CRO-SC, contendo questões sobre a formação e atuação profissional e também sobre alguns casos clínicos de pacientes em dentição decídua e mista.
