The death pension of the General Social Security System is a social security benefit owed to the dependents of the deceased insured person and, due to the advent of the Constitutional Amendment No. 103/2019, known as “the pension reform”, it underwent through significant changes, understood as necessary by the government in order to balance the public accounts of Social Security. This way, the present monographic work aims to analyze the changes introduced by EC No. 103/2019 in the benefit of the death pension, as well as to verify whether such changes were beneficial to the beneficiaries of that pension. For this purpose, bibliographic and documentary research was used, through doctrines, articles, official documents, legislation and jurisprudence. Thereby, it is possible to conclude that the changes occurred in the death pension benefit were not beneficial to its beneficiaries, since the new system for calculating the death pension reduced its value considerably and, in addition, the shares received by each dependent are no longer reversible as well as the minor under custody was excluded from the list of dependents of the insured person.
