Resumo: | Deciding whether to continue to take a medication or not during pregnancy is a complex decision for women and their healthcare providers to make. Information from friends, family, health care providers and media can have an important impact on decision-making regarding pharmacotherapy for psychiatric disorders during pregnancy. This article seeks to show how the stigma related to psychiatric treatment may also interfere with the perception of risk associated with them during pregnancy. If society, patients and doctors are concerned about the use of medications during pregnancy, there seems to be more concern if these medications are psychotropics. Health care providers should recognize this to identify core barriers when counseling patients who require psychopharmacotherapy in this period. |

Informações de amigos, familiares, profissionais de saúde e meios de comunicação podem ter um impacto importante na tomada de decisões sobre a farmacoterapia para transtornos psiquiátricos durante a gestação. Este artigo procura mostrar como o estigma relacionado ao tratamento psiquiátrico também pode interferir na percepção de risco associada a ele durante a gravidez. Se a sociedade, as pacientes e os médicos se preocupam com o uso de medicações durante a gestação, preocupação maior parece existir se estas medicações são psicofármacos.
