Sociolinguistics and Dialectology: thirty-five years in the history of ANPOLL’s Sociolinguistics WG

This text aims to present an overview of the activities developed by the ANPOLL’s Sociolinguistics WG from its foundation to the present day, especially those that refer to dialect research. To this end, it used data extracted from various sources, such as Reports on the WG website, part of the published Bulletins, Minutes, in addition to other documents that could provide a view, albeit succinct, of the activities developed during the 35 years of its existence. The successive meetings, as evidenced by the text, were permeated with ideas and attitudes that aimed to consolidate sociolinguistic studies in universities in their relationship with the external community, also seeking an exchange between researchers from different institutions. The authors recognize that part of the story was lost due to lack of records, but the sources researched provide sufficient elements to prove not only the presence of researchers focused on the dialectical line, but also the intense dedication of the boards and their associates.
