Resumo: The proposition of this paper is to investigate the television series America (directed by João Moreira Salles) made for the former channel Rede Manchete in 1989. Several questions could be explored in this documentary such as: how do these images build national imaginaries? Do such images present themselves as “portraits of the real” or eventually enlighten subjective visions? The paper however investigates the dynamics of the landscape notion in America according to the questions called at that time upon. It’s a recently-discovered repertory of practices (video) and movement glances in which the American territory reappears as an object of aspiration and experience of privation, that is, landscape

Muchas son las cuestiones que podrían ser aprovechadas frente a este documental: cómo pretende sus imágenes construir imaginarios nacionales? Las imágenes se presentan como retratos de lo real u aclaran visiones subjetivas? Este artículo pero investiga la dinamica de la noción del paisaje en AMERICA desde las propias cuestiones que las imágenes convocan en aquel momento. Es un recién descubierto repertorio de prácticas (video) y miradas en devenir en el que el territorio americano resurge como objeto de aspiración y experiencia de privación, es decir, paisaje.O artigo analisa a série América (direção de João Moreira Salles) feita para a extinta Rede Manchete em 1989. Muitas são as questões que poderiam ser exploradas diante desse documentário, como: de que modo suas imagens constróem os imaginários nacionais? Tais imagens se apresentam como “retratos do real” ou eventualmente explicitam visões subjetivas? O artigo porém investiga a dinâmica da noção de paisagem em América a partir das próprias questões que as imagens convocam naquele momento.
