Resumo: The objective of this article is to analyze, in the context of the 19th century, the debates about the protection of the male child underprivileged, the pedagogical conception of professional primary education of the Asylum of Desvaled Boys (1875-1894) and the life trajectories of inmates of that nursing home/school institution. In this study, different document sources were used, among them, 713 individual folders of boarding students. The theoretical-methodological contribution comes from the studies on biographies developed by Pierre Bourdieu (2002) and from the field of History of Education. The examination of life trajectories showed that those historical subjects constructed social reality, inserted in a network of interdependence, to change or preserve it.

En este estudio se utilizaron diferentes fuentes documentales, entre ellas, 713 carpetas individuales de estudiantes internos. El aporte teórico-metodológico proviene de los estudios sobre biografías desarrollados por Pierre Bourdieu (2002) y del campo de la Historia de la Educación. El examen de trayectorias de vida mostró que esos sujetos históricos construyeron la realidad social, insertados en una red de interdependencia, para cambiarla o preservarlaO objetivo deste artigo é analisar, no contexto do século XIX, os debates acerca da proteção à criança desvalidas do sexo masculino, a concepção pedagógica de ensino primário profissional do Asilo de Meninos Desvalidos (1875-1894) e as trajetórias de vida de meninos internos daquela instituição asilar/escolar. Neste estudo foram mobilizadas diferentes fontes documentais, dentre elas, 713 pastas individuais dos alunos internos. O aporte teórico - metodológico advém dos estudos sobre biografias desenvolvidos por Pierre Bourdieu (2002) e do campo da História da Educação.
