From aphonia to children's voice in research: a critical understanding of the concept of voice

Resumo: Research with children is a field in progress that has contributed to face the invisibility of children both as objects and as subjects of research, bringing them to the center, because of their status as active subjects of rights and social actors which requires a methodological and ethical commitment that respects this condition. The consolidation of the idea that children are legitime subjects of knowledge (authoritative knowers), requires from adult researchers a refined ethical commitment that respectfully calls the children's voices, without leaving them invisible in the voice of the adult who interprets them. In this paper, we will mobilize questions about the concept of voice and reflections about the contexts in which these voices are produced. How are the power relationships considered? How are the alterities of adults and children considered in the production of these voices? What is the value of silences in research processes? To answer to these questions will situate the concept of voice in the field of complexities that cross the research with children, bringing to the center a debate about of an epistemological commitment to methodological and theoretical options and the way they are organized in order to respect the child as subject and author.

La consolidación de la idea de que los niños son considerados sujetos legítimos de conocimiento (conocedores autorizados) requiere de investigadores adultos un compromiso ético refinado que respete las voces de los niños con respeto, sin dejarlos invisibles en la voz del adulto que los interpreta. En este texto, movilizaremos preguntas sobre el concepto de voz y reflexiones sobre los contextos en los que se producen estas voces. ¿Cómo se consideran las relaciones de poder que los influyen? ¿Cómo se consideran las alteridades de adultos y niños en la producción de estas voces? ¿Cuál es el valor de los silencios en los procesos de investigación? La respuesta a estas preguntas tratará de situar el concepto de voz en el campo de las complejidades que cruzan la investigación con los niños, llevando al centro del debate un compromiso epistemológico estructurante de las opciones metodológicas y teóricas y la forma en que se organizan para respetar al niño como sujeto y autor.A investigação com crianças é um campo em desenvolvimento que tem contribuído para enfrentar a invisibilidade das crianças quer como objetos quer como sujeitos de pesquisa, trazendo-as para o centro, a partir do argumento de que o seu estatuto de sujeitos ativos de direitos e de atores sociais exige um comprometimento metodológico e ético que respeite essa sua condição. A consolidação da ideia de que as crianças são consideradas sujeitos legítimos do conhecimento (authoritative knowers) requer da parte dos adultos investigadores um comprometimento ético apurado que convoque de forma respeitosa as vozes das crianças, sem as deixar invisibilizadas na voz do adulto que as interpreta. Neste texto, mobilizaremos questionamentos sobre o conceito de voz e reflexões acerca dos contextos nos quais essas vozes são produzidas. De que modo são consideradas as relações de poder que as influenciam? De que modo são consideradas as alteridades de adultos e crianças na produção dessas vozes?
