The Portuguese Language Olympics and writing methods in public schools: an introduction

Resumo: Using compositions written by students enrolled in the Portuguese Language Olympics - Writing the Future (2010 edition) as an object of analysis, this report aims to reflect on teaching and learning Portuguese language based on work with text genres. Its specific goal is to locate discursive, textual and linguistic-grammatical issues, based on analysis of student text production, that are capable of collaborating towards faculty work in each of the genres developed by the Olympics as well as towards assessment and any reformulation of didactic materials and the program's educational activities. As a general goal, an intention is established to collaborate with educational policies, as well as with mother language teaching-learning research in Brazil, while also understanding writing methods in public schools. Keeping these aims in mind, this Introduction presents the theoretical and methodological suppositions on which the Olympics are based, and the activities and procedures that are unique to them, as well as their relationships with currents of thought that guide teaching of Portuguese Language and public policy for this curricular component in the present day. We also explain and discuss what seems to represent, in the program, a set of conditions for production for both student writing and for analyses of this report, which makes its reading fundamental to a discussion of the different articles that make up the collection published herein

Tendo em vista esses objetivos, esta Introdução apresenta os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos que orientam a Olimpíada, e as atividades e os procedimentos que lhes são próprios, bem como suas relações com correntes que orientam, contemporaneamente, o ensino de Língua Portuguesa e políticas públicas para esse componente curricular. Tomando as redações dos estudantes inscritos na Olimpíada de Língua Portuguesa Escrevendo o Futuro (edição de 2010) como objeto de análise, este especial propõe uma reflexão sobre o ensino-aprendizagem da língua portuguesa baseado no trabalho com gênero de textos.
