IMMEDIATE EFFECT OF PHYSIOTHERAPY IN THE GAIT OF PEOPLE WITH PARKINSON´S DISEASE

Parkinson´s disease (PD) is one of the main diseases of the nervous system and gait changes are among the most disabling symptoms of the disease. Current analysis evaluated the effectiveness of a physiotherapy session within a short-term improvement in the gait of people with PD. Assay comprises a prospective series of nine subjects classified between stages 1.5 and 3 in Hoehn &Yahr´s scale, who were evaluated before and after a single physiotherapy intervention using rhythmic audial and visual tracks, during 60 minutes, which also included gait. There were statistically significant differences for intervention with regard to step size (p=0.01), area (p=0.01), number of steps (p=0.03), time of distance ensued (p=0.01) and speed (p=0.01). A single intervention was effective for the group under analysis, with significant statistics for gait.
