Resumo: In addition to drug treatment, many patients use medicinal plants to treat hypertension and diabetes, often without knowledge of efficacy and safety. Thus, this research investigated the prevalence of the use of medicinal plants by diabetic and hypertensive patients and analyzed its association with sociodemographic variables. An epidemiological, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with 300 hypertensive and diabetic patients attended by the Ouro Branco health unit, in Umuarama-PR, who answered a sociodemographic questionnaire and on the use of medicinal plants. Most patients were women, with low education and family income. Regarding the use of medicinal plants, 27 species were mentioned, but only 7.7% patients used them in a recommended manner. Hypertensive and diabetic patients make use of medicinal plants without knowledge of the correct preparation and the potential of these species to cause adverse effects.

Hypertensive and diabetic patients make use of medicinal plants without knowledge of the correct preparation and the potential of these species to cause adverse effects. Universidade Cesumar - UniCesumar2021-04-30info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionTextoapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/823710.17765/2176-9206.2021v14n2e8237Saúde e Pesquisa; Vol 14 No 2 (2021): abr./jun. ; 319-331Saúde e Pesquisa; v. 14 n. 2 (2021): abr./jun. ; 319-3312176-9206reponame:Saúde e Pesquisa (Online)instname:Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisainstacron:CESUMARporenghttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/8237/6603https://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/article/view/8237/6604Shirabayashi, Jaqueline de Bortoli Amaral, Eduarda Carolina Silva, Gustavo Ratti da Santos, Andréia Fuentes dos Bortoloti, Durcelina Schiavoni Lovato, Evellyn Claudia Wietzikoski Lívero, Francislaine Aparecida dos Reisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2021-08-16T17:33:29Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/8237Revistahttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesqPUBhttps://periodicos.unicesumar.edu.br/index.php/saudpesq/oainaep@cesumar.br2176-92061983-1870opendoar:2021-08-16T17:33:29Saúde e Pesquisa (Online) - Cesumar Diretoria de Pesquisafalse
