Abstract: Pain is reported daily by oncologic patients, and understanding that pain is something underestimated involves understanding the need for its correct diagnostic assessment, intervention and follow-up of treatment outcomes. Purpose: to analyze pain management under the focus of the nursing team and patients. Methods: This is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach, where a research will be conducted with professionals of the nursing staff and patients of an oncology unit. The sample will be given for convenience, being applied a questionnaire prepared by the researchers themselves. The data will be analyzed by means of content analysis. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the FSG Centro Universitário under the CAAE nº 07168919400005668. Results: After analyzing the data from the nursing team's answers, the following categories were evidenced: evaluation of the patient's pain, strategies and interventions used, difficulties encountered, preparation of the team for pain evaluation and pain as an indicator of quality of care. Regarding the patients, it was observed that the pain varied between moderate, intense and unbearable, did not hear reports of differentiated care to provide pain relief, they felt comfortable without evidencing needs of other interventions, only drug therapy. Conclusion: note that the nursing team evaluates the pain in the oncologic patient, however, does not instigate alterative ways in pain relief, analgesia was the main conduct on the part of the nursing
