The ethical dilemmas of artificial intelligence in library information services

Resumo: Libraries are growing organizations that provide services to society and need to be continuously updated with new technologies. With artificial intelligence, libraries can use this technology to support their tasks, but at the same time, information professionals need to be aware of the emergence of information services with this technology. The objective of this article is to identify the scientific production in the Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação and Web of Science databases, in the period 2018-2022, on the theme of artificial intelligence in Information Science, considering its ethical issues. The methodology is qualitative and is characterized by a systematic literature mapping. This article is the result of a master's research in progress. As a result, a total of 136 publications were found and only 19 relevant articles were selected using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses technique, which indicate that the topic of ethical issues of Artificial Intelligence in library information services is more investigated in articles published in English in the database Web of Science. It is necessary a more critical and active positioning of the information professional, in this case, of the librarians so that they update themselves in the contents related to the technological context to offer information services that meet the needs of the users. In addition, it is necessary to develop more research in the area of Information Science on this topic.

Con la inteligencia artificial, las bibliotecas pueden utilizar esta tecnología para apoyar sus tareas, pero al mismo tiempo, los profesionales de la información deben estar conscientes del surgimiento de servicios de información con esta tecnología. El objetivo de este artículo es identificar la producción científica en las bases de datos Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação y Web of Science, en el período 2018-2022, sobre el tema de la inteligencia artificial en las Ciencias de la Información, considerando sus cuestiones éticas. La metodología es cualitativa y se caracteriza por un mapeo sistemático de la literatura. Este artículo es el resultado de una investigación de maestría en curso. Como resultado se encontró un total de 136 publicaciones y solo se seleccionaron 19 artículos relevantes utilizando la técnica Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, lo que indica que el tema de las cuestiones éticas de la Inteligencia Artificial en los servicios de información bibliotecaria es más investigado en los artículos publicados en inglés en la base de datos Web of Science. Es necesario un posicionamiento más crítico y activo del profesional de la información, en este caso, de los bibliotecarios para que se actualicen en los contenidos relacionados con el contexto tecnológico para ofrecer servicios de información que satisfagan las necesidades de los usuarios. Además, es necesario desarrollar más investigaciones en el área de las Ciencias de la Información sobre este tema.As bibliotecas são organismos em crescimento que prestam serviços a sociedade e precisam estar em atualização continua com as novas tecnologias. Com a inteligência artificial, as bibliotecas podem usar essa tecnologia como apoio em suas tarefas, mas, ao mesmo tempo, os profissionais da informação precisam estar atentos ao surgimento de serviços de informação com essa tecnologia. O objetivo deste artigo é identificar a produção científica nas bases de dados Base de Dados Referenciais de Artigos de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação e Web of Science, no período de 2018-2022, sobre a temática da inteligência artificial na Ciência da Informação, considerando suas questões éticas. A metodologia é qualitativa e se caracteriza por um mapeamento sistemático de literatura. Esse artigo é fruto de uma pesquisa de mestrado em andamento. Como resultado foram encontradas um total de 136 publicações e somente 19 artigos relevantes foram selecionados usando a técnica Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, que indicam que a temática das questões éticas da inteligência artificial nos serviços de informação nas bibliotecas é mais investigada em artigos publicados em inglês na base de dados Web of Science. Se faz necessário um posicionamento mais crítico e ativo do profissional da informação, neste caso, dos bibliotecários para que se atualizem nos conteúdos relacionados ao contexto tecnológico para oferecer serviços de informação que atendam as necessidades dos usuários.
