Pedagogy as a Science Field: an analysis based on Dermeval Saviani's thought

Resumo: | In this paper, we investigated pedagogy as a science field, as it is advocated by Dermeval Saviani. It is widely recognized that, in Brazil, it is not usual to consider that pedagogy is a science. Furthermore, there is no consensus on which scientific basis the area is constituted. On the other hand, those who deny its scientificity claim that education is the object of other sciences. Considering this, we refer to a text by Dermeval Saviani entitled Pedagogia e ciência(s) da educação (2008) in order to demonstrate that pedagogy is the field of scientific investigation on the socialization and intentional didactic processes of knowledge, since dealing pedagogically with contents and learners is specific to this area. Hence, we cannot endorse teaching as the aspect that typifies or hegemonizes pedagogy. Finally, we emphasize that the awareness of an intentional and systematic development of school knowledge for human promotion legitimizes pedagogy as a relatively autonomous science. Sabe-se que, no Brasil, não é comum analisar a possibilidade de tomá-la como uma Ciência. Além disso, não há consenso sobre quais pressupostos científicos compõem a àrea. Por outro lado, os que negam sua cientificidade argumentam que a educação é objeto de outras Ciências. Diante disso, utilizamos o texto de Dermeval Saviani (2008), Pedagogia e ciência(s) da educação, para mostrar que a Pedagogia é o campo de investigação científica dos processos de socialização e didatização intencional dos conhecimentos, pois lidar pedagogicamente com os conteúdos e os educandos é uma especificidade dessa área. Por isso, não podemos endossar a docência como o aspecto que caracteriza ou hegemoniza a Pedagogia.
