Prevalence of antibodies for Toxoplasma gondii in the sera of pedigree swine in the state of Santa Catarina

Resumo: The indirect haemagglutination inhibition test was utilized to determine the prevalence of antibodies to Toxoplasma gondii in pedigree swine from 61 farms, representing 61.2% of the total purebreed breeders affiliated to the Associação Catarinense de Criadores de Suínos. Sera samples of 1.033 swines were analysed. Twelve samples (1.16%) from seven herds (11.47%) were considered positive. The sera titles ranged from 1:64 to 1:512. Sera with title equal or higher than 1:64 were considered positive.

Sera with title equal or higher than 1:64 were considered positive.Através da técnica de hemoaglutinação indireta (HAI), determinou-se a prevalência de anticorpos antitoxoplasma (Toxoplasma gondii) em 61 granjas de reprodutores suínos, que representam 61,2% das granjas filiadas à associação Catarinense de Criadores de Suínos. Nas amostras de 1.033 suínos foram encontrados doze (1,16%) animais reagentes pertencentes a sete (11,47%) granjas. Os títulos variaram entre 1:64 e 1:512.
