Fall armyworm control in field corn with chemical and biological insecticides

Resumo: Studies wore performed on the effect of the pesticides carbaryl, methomyl, decamethrin, heptachlor, diazinon, chlorpyrifos ethyl, fonofos and Bacillus thuringiensis on fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, in corn field. At forty-eight hours and at 8 days after the pesticide application, an evaluation was made of the number of living and dead larvae. Based on the 48-hour observation, it can be concluded that the insecticides chlorpyrifos ethyl (Lorsban 4 EC) and methomyl (Lannate 90 PS), gave good result against the insect. 5. thuringiensis presented no effect on the fall armyworm larvae. All the chemical insecticides provided good residual effect against fall armyworm larvae, keeping the plants free from reinfestation up to 8 days after pesticide application.

All the chemical insecticides provided good residual effect against fall armyworm larvae, keeping the plants free from reinfestation up to 8 days after pesticide application.Para o controle das lagartas de Spodoptera frugiperda avaliou-se o efeito dos inseticidas carbaryl (Carvin 85 M), metomil (Lannate 90 PS), decamethrin (Decis CE 2,5), heptacloro (Heptacloro 1,5 G), diazinon (Basudin 14 G), clorpirifos etil (Lorsban 4 EC), fonofos (Dyfonate 10 G), fonofos (Dyfonate 4 EC) e o Bacillus thuríngiensis ( Dipel M), em condições de campo. As observações do número de lagartas mortas e vivas foram realizadas às 48 horas e aos 8 dias após a aplicação dos produtos. Com base nos resultados obtidos na primeira observação, concluiu- se que os inseticidas clorpirifos etil e metomil foram os mais eficientes no controle de S. frugiperda, enquanto que o B. thuringiensis apresentou eficiência nula sobre a praga.
