Efficiency of Mendes' early tapping test in relation to Hamaker Morris-Mann in rubber tree selection

Resumo: The performance of Mendes' early Tapping Minitest (MTP) in relation to the modified Hamaker Morris-Mann test (HMM) is studied aiming to evaluate the efficiency of former in early selection of clones (budded stumps) and seedlings of rubber tree (Hevea spp.). The results achieved showed highly significant correlation among the three rounds conducted, as well as between the results of the two methods in selecting high yielding seedling, both in open or controlled pollination nurseries. On the other hand, there was no significant correlation between them when applied to clones, what indicates the low efficiency of these tests in early selection of rubber tree clones. Modifications on the Microtapping Test are suggested for further studies envolving either clones or seedlings in order to improve its selection efficiency.

Objetivou-se verificar a eficiência do primeiro na seleção precoce de clones e plântulas de seringueira (hevea spp.). O estudo realizado constou da utilização dos testes em dois diferentes ensaios: um, com plântulas; e outro, com clones. Os resultados alcançados pelo Miniteste de Produção (MTP) mostraram numericamente alta e significativa correlação linear entre os três ciclos de testes realizados. Resultados das estimativas de correlação do miniteste de produção com o teste Hamaker Morris-Mann apresentaram-se significativos na seleção precoce de plântulas em viveiros originados de polinização aberta e de polinização controlada. Nas correlações estimadas para clones, o Miniteste de Produção apresentou valores que não foram significativos, indicando que a seleção precoce de clones de seringueira, com base nesse teste, não será eficiente.
