Maturation indexes for optimum harvest of ‘SCS425 Luiza’ apple fruit

Resumo: This study was carried out to determine fruit maturation indexes for apple cv. SCS425 Luiza for optimum harvest period (OHP). Fruits were harvested weekly from 121 to 153 days after full bloom (DAFB) and assessed one day after harvest, and after seven months of CA storage. Considering fruit appearance, OHP for immediate consumption was between 138 and 153 DAFB. The substantial increase of ethylene production in fruit after 127 DAFB indicated they should be harvested until this date if intended to long-term storage. However, to achieve at least 50% of the fruit with red color skin corresponding to Category 1, the OHP should be from 127 DAFB. The OHP should not exceed 138 DAPF to minimize the incidence of pulp darkening and rot during storage. Maximum sensory quality of apples after storage occurred when harvested between 121 and 131 DAFB. Considering that the OHP for ‘SCS425 Luiza’ apples intended for seven months in CA storage is between 121 and 131 DAFB, the maturation indexes of these fruits were: 17.0 to 18.2 lb for flesh firmness, 10.6 to 12.3% for soluble solids content, 0.272 to 0.310% for titratable acidity, and 1.8 to 7.0 for starch index.

As maçãs foram colhidas semanalmente, de 121 a 153 dias após a plena floração (DAPF) e analisadas um dia após a colheita e após sete meses de armazenagem em AC. Considerando a aparência, o período ideal de colheita (PIC) das maçãs destinadas ao consumo imediato ocorreu entre 138 e 153 DAPF. O aumento acentuado da produção de etileno dos frutos a partir de 127 DAPF indicou que eles devem ser colhidos até essa data se destinados a longos períodos de armazenagem. No entanto, para colher ao menos 50% de maçãs com cor vermelha equivalente a Categoria 1, o PIC deve ser a partir de 127 DAPF. O PIC dos frutos não pode se estender além de 138 DAPF para que a incidência de escurecimento da polpa e podridões durante a armazenagem seja mínima. Máxima qualidade sensorial das maçãs após a armazenagem ocorreu quando colhidas entre 121 e 131 DAPF.
