Resumo: Throughout the twentieth century, the Brazilian history was marked by the implementation of various regulations and standards of environmental character that still govern and / or influence the policies that govern the use of natural resources by society. The purpose of this article is to analyze the environmental normativity related to water resources in Brazil, in the period from 1930 to 1990, under a legal and historical and environmental perspective, focusing on the different policies of appropriation of waters in the country, as well as possible ways of conservation, sustainability and wise use of this resource. The analysis of public policy management of water resources still allowed to realize the inherent challenges in Brazil and the consolidation of a systemic model of integration in participatory water management process with decentralized, integrated and shared among the various subjects involved character, beyond implementation of legal instruments that promote a more rational and sustainable use of this natural resource.

O objetivo deste artigo consiste em analisar a normatividade ambiental relacionada aos recursos hídricos no Brasil, no período de 1930 a 1990, sob uma perspectiva jurídica e histórico-ambiental, com foco nas diferentes políticas de apropriação das águas no País, assim como possíveis caminhos de conservação, uso racional e sustentabilidade deste recurso.
