THE PROBLEM OF ENVIRONMENTAL REFUGEES IN INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY

Resumo: This article aims to develop the concept of refugees, so that the term can also be used for situations of forced displacement due to environmental events. To this end, the traditional concept of refugees will be analyzed; how rising temperatures around the world can lead to forced displacement events; how natural disasters can also lead to the same displacement; Several examples are used to illustrate these different situations. Also, the decision of the UN Human Rights Committee in the case of Ione Teitiota versus New Zealand will be studied, in which a resident of Kiribati seeks refuge in that country, considering that, due to the rise in sea levels due to global warming, your country, in the near future, will cease to exist.

Com esse intuito, serão analisados o conceito tradicional de refugiados; como o aumento da temperatura no mundo pode levar a eventos de deslocamento forçado; como desastres naturais também podem levar ao mesmo deslocamento, sendo utilizados diversos exemplos para que se possa ilustrar essas diversas situações.
