Resumo: This paper aims to reflect briefly about the existing Christian community in some areas bounded around the Mediterranean during the first century, without the intention to explore all concepts that this subject involves and being aware of the rich material already developed by the research on the historical Jesus and the breadth of the theme. We know that the Mediterranean Christianity was not homogeneous in its constitution, so that it would be incorrect to talk about a Mediterranean Christianity. However, as shown by recent researches on the New Testament, there was a Christian community formed from a plurality of Christianities, which ones, due to regional, distinct cultural and religious conditioning, built different characteristics and each identity. This article seeks to ascertain how the Mediterranean Christian community was seen and how it responded to the challenges of the context.

This article seeks to ascertain how the Mediterranean Christian community was seen and how it responded to the challenges of the context.O artigo objetiva refletir, de forma pontuada e breve, sobre a comunidade cristã existente em algumas áreas delimitadas em torno do mediterrâneo durante o primeiro século, sem a pretensão de explorar todos os conceitos que o tema envolve, sabendo, com isso, do rico material já desenvolvido pelas pesquisas acerca do Jesus histórico e da amplitude do tema.
