Resumo: This work intends to be a comparison among two glances on the Amazonian: Euclides da Cunha and the poet of Pará João de Jesus Paes Loureiro, starting from the presupposition that the vision which is settled down as hegemonic determines the actions and, in the case of the Amazonian, it has determined public policies in relation to the area. The vision of progress and civilization of Euclides da Cunha advocates mainly the government policies implanted in the last 40 years in the area. I defend that in the current moment there is the need to review this only vision as well as to establish other complemental glances which define the otherness culture and a future of ecological and cultural preservation for the Amazonian.

A visão de progresso e civilização de Euclides da Cunha preconiza principalmente as políticas governamentais implantadas nos últimos 40 anos na região.
