Parental support for first grade children

Resumo: The family has been linked to both the success and the failure of children at school and also identified as a stimulating source of productivity and school adjustment. It has also been identified as a source of discouragement and devaluation of education. This study investigated the expectations and the conception of parental support among 97 fathers of first grade children in a public school in Florianopolis. The instruments selected for data collection were an interview with two open questions and a sociodemographic questionnaire. This research, anchored in a data collection method which is descriptive, exploratory and uses a qualitative approach, has shown that both fathers and mothers emphasise cognitive development and offer resources to help children reach positive academic performance.

El presente estudio investigó las expectativas y la concepción sobre el apoyo parental de 97 padres de niños del primer año de la educación básica en una escuela pública de Florianópolis. Los instrumentos para la recogida de los datos fueron un cuestionario con preguntas abiertas y un cuestionario socioeconómico. Basada en el método de relevamiento de datos, de cuño descriptivo y exploratorio y de naturaleza cualitativa, la investigación mostró que ambos padres enfatizan bastante el desarrollo cognitivo de sus hijos y ofrecen recursos que los pueden ayudar a obtener buenos desempeños académicos.La famille est actuellement mise en rapport aussi bien avec la réussite qu’avec l’échec des enfants à l’école et est désignée comme la source de motivation pour la productivité et l’ajustement scolaire, de même que pour la dévalorisation de l’éducation. La présente recherche s’appuie sur une enquête portant sur les attentes et la conception de support parental menée auprès de 97 pères d’élèves de la première année de l’école élémentaire, dans un établissement publique de la ville de Florianópolis. Les outils pour rassembler les données ont été un formulaire avec des questions ouvertes et un questionnaire socio-économique. La recherche, basée sur une méthode de collecte de données, de type descriptif et exploratoire et de nature quantitative, a montré que les deux parents mettent en avant le développement cognitif des enfants et offrent des ressources pouvant contribuer à l’obtention de bons résultats académiques.A família tem sido relacionada tanto ao sucesso quanto ao fracasso das crianças na escola e tem sido apontada como fonte estimuladora da produtividade e do ajuste escolar, bem como da desvalorização da educação. A presente pesquisa investigou as expectativas e a concepção sobre suporte parental de 97 pais de crianças do primeiro ano do ensino fundamental em uma escola pública de Florianópolis. Os instrumentos para a coleta de dados foram um questionário com perguntas abertas e um questionário socioeconômico.
