Thchnica1 obsolescence of researchers: a reference point for future studies

Resumo: Technical obsolescence represents a process whose causes and total dynamics are still not well understood. Consequently; means for preventing and combating it have been identified more in an intuitive fashion than based upon firm knowledge. This study seeks to increase the leveI of understanding of the problem, beginning with reflections on the concepts of what  obsolescence is, then going on the analysis of its origins, responsibilities, and methodological approaches for its study. A review of the literature shows the continuing unavailability of a reasonably articulated theory, minimally accepted for understanding and analyzing the problem. In the same way, definite conc1usions cannot yet be drawn from studies and research carried out conceming the relationships between aging and performance of researchers in their work, thus recommending further investigation.

Em conseqüência, os meios para sua prevenção e combate têm sido identificados mais de forma intuitiva do que com base em conhecimentos solidamente definidos. Este artigo buscaampliar o nível de compreensão do problema, inicialmente pela reflexão em tomo das conceituações do que seja obsolescência para, em seguida, passar a analisar suas origens, responsabilidades e abordagens metodológicas paraseu estudo. A revisão da literatura revela a ausência, ainda, de uma teoria razoavelmente articulada e minimamente aceita para entendimento e análise do problema. Do mesmo modo, dos estudos e pesquisas realizados ainda não podem ser tiradas conclusões definitivas quanto às relações entre envelhecimentoetário e peiformance de pesquisadores no trabalho.
