Resumo: The study discusses the social production of conceptions dealing with development and environment in the modern industrial society. In its view, such relationships are historically produced, presently resulting in the affirmation both of a culture and a paradigm of hegemonic development, the modus operandi of which is founded on expropriatory and subordinative relationships. The author stresses the crucial role on the civil society as an agent of fundamental importance in the construction of a democratic field, where such relationships of domination can be transformed. It is possible, through the action of social movements of a libertarian character, as well as by means of the emergence of new collective agents, to arrive at the production of ethic values capable of allowing a new project of society, having as its fulcrum life and the human being.
