Resumo: On June 22, 2006, the federal government approved the National Policy on Medicinal Plants and Herbal Medicines. This policy has guidelines are essential to improving people’s access to medicinal plants in a safe, social inclusion and regional planning, and sustainable use of Brazilian biodiversity. Because school is a place of formation of future citizens and education is an indispensable element of transformation, the present work through participatory management aims to bring the schools and in their educational environment to promote health and sustainable development using herbal theme generator.Students conduct a survey of medicinal plants used by their parents or guardians and from the data obtained will build a medicinal garden, a herbarium and learn practical composting. Also visit other institutions with projects related to medicinal plants. In addition, parents and caregivers with knowledge of medicinal plants have the opportunity to organize and hold events. All activities will serve as a tool for educators to discuss matters in accordance with the contents presented in the classroom. Thus, we believe we are contributing to the formation of concerned citizens, leaders and participants, increasing self-esteem from the time that they feel part of the project and contribute to the implementation of the guidelines of National Program on Medicinal Plants and Herbal Medicines meeting the demands of local communities the rescue of knowledge relating to medicinal plants already used by the local community and explain about its correct use.

Essa política possui diretrizes imprescindíveis para a melhoria do acesso da população às plantas medicinais de forma segura, à inclusão social e regional, além do uso sustentável da biodiversidade brasileira. Como a escola é um espaço de formação de futuros cidadãos e a educação é um elemento indispensável de transformação, o presente trabalho através da gestão participativa visa levar à unidade escolar e ao seu entorno ações educativas que promovam a saúde e o desenvolvimento sustentável utilizando plantas medicinais como tema gerador. Os alunos realizarão um levantamento das plantas medicinais utilizadas pelos seus pais e responsáveis e a partir dos dados obtidos construirão uma horta medicinal, um herbário e aprenderão práticas de compostagem. Também visitarão outras instituições com projetos relacionados com plantas medicinais. Além disso, pais e responsáveis com conhecimentos de plantas medicinais terão a oportunidade de organizar e realizar eventos. Todas as atividades servirão de ferramenta para os educadores abordarem temas de acordo com os conteúdos apresentados em sala de aula.
