This paper presents a group reflection on the the recently stated National Policy of Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) in Brazil, from the industrial point of view, specially that sector involved in the production of pharmaceuticals and related products from botanical sources as raw material. The establishment of a national policy for medicinal plants and phytotherapy is very important but for it to progress and become a reality will require establishment of programs to put into practice each of the many steps of the productive chain - from the plant to the final product - particuarly those measures destined to resolve national technological bottlenecks, herein identified and discussed by specialists in the different technological segments of the phytopharmaceutical industry.
