The study about traditional use of medicinal plants can help in the discovery of active principles with some pharmacological activity. The aim of this study was gather information about the plants grown and used for medicinal purposes at Associação Casa de Ervas Barranco da Esperança e Vida (ACEBEV), locally known as ACEBEV, in the municipality of Porteirinha, MG. It was used a semi-structured interviews and informal dialogue with the Religious Mônica, known as Sister Mônica, founder and responsible for ACEBEV in order to obtain the information. This study registered 74 medicinal species, distributed in 33 families, standing out Asteraceae (15 spp.) and Lamiaceae (15 spp.). Medicinal plants are manipulated in a handmade product and marketed as natural. The most common uses are related to infectious diseases, diseases of the skin and sub-cutaneous tissue, nervous system disorders and disorders of the gastrointestinal system. Aloe vera (2.0), Ricinus communis (2.0) and Kalanchoe brasiliensis (2.0) showed higher relative importance. The results show the importance of ACEBEV for the local population, both as support for health and for recovery and preservation of resources in the region.
