Resumo: The use of medicinal plants as a therapeutic alternative is growing in society. The species Miconia albicans, popularly known as old cinnamon, is being consumed in several regions of the country, as it has anti-inflammatory action. This work evaluated the volatile constituents and the quality of five samples of M. albicans teas, acquired in commercial environments in the city of Jaraguá do Sul. The information on their labels were compared and the presence of foreign matter, microorganisms, moisture content, and total ash were determined. The characterization of phenolic compounds in the samples was performed using HPLC-LC-ESI-MS / MS. Toxicity was assessed with Artemia salina larvae. Some samples showed irregularities regarding the specifications of packaging labels. The results of quality control of the vegetable raw material have shown to be in accordance with the specifications described in the Brazilian Pharmacopeia. The phenolic compounds analysis of five samples, as well as the phytochemical profile consistent with the species under study. The analyzed samples are potentially cytotoxic, which makes the species promising for future studies in the cancer’s treatment.

Centro de Inovação em Biodiversidade e Saúde - Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz2020-12-18info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdftext/htmlhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/105510.32712/2446-4775.2020.1055Revista Fitos; Vol. 14 No. 4 (2020); 450-461Revista Fitos; Vol. 14 Núm. 4 (2020); 450-461Revista Fitos; v. 14 n. 4 (2020); 450-4612446-47751808-9569reponame:Revista Fitosinstname:Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)instacron:FIOCRUZporhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/1055/756https://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/1055/757Copyright (c) 2020 Revista Fitoshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessHamann, BrunaWinter, Elisa Mara dos SantosSilbert, Diogo AlexandreMicke, Gustavo AmadeuVitali, LucianoTenfen, AdrielliZimmermann, Lara Almida2020-12-18T10:45:45Zoai:ojs.revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br:article/1055Revistahttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/PUBhttp://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/oairevistafitos@far.fiocruz.br || eugenio.telles@far.fiocruz.br2446-47752446-4775opendoar:2020-12-18T10:45:45Revista Fitos - Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)false
