Resumo: Introduction: In Brazil, skin cancer is responsible for one third of malignant neoplasms, and melanoma is related to high mortality, depending on the stage at diagnosis. Objective: To report a case in which two lesions suggestive of ectoscopic malignancy were identified, in a consultation to which the patient did not refer such injuries. We demonstrate the importance of a rigorous dermatological examination in order to identify potentially malignant lesions and promote a better quality of life for the patient, regardless of the patient's main complaint. Case Description: A 69-year-old patient attended the dermatological consultation complaining of an unsatisfactory aesthetic procedure. The dermatological examination identified pigmented, asymmetric lesions, with irregular edges and varied colors. The histopathological result indicated lentigo malignant melanoma "in situ". The patient had been referred for surgical treatment, under guidance. Discussion: It is of great importance that the doctor and the general population know the ABCDE rule for skin cancer, in order to pay attention to dermatological lesions with suspected malignancy, since patients with melanomas detected early, either by clinical examination, or be assisted by dermoscopy, have better survival, lower overall mortality and less cancer-related morbidity. Conclusion: It is necessary to emphasize the need for the knowledge of suspected pigmented lesions by non-specialist doctors, as well as the population's awareness of this identification and its consequences.

Conclusion: It is necessary to emphasize the need for the knowledge of suspected pigmented lesions by non-specialist doctors, as well as the population's awareness of this identification and its consequences.
