INSERTION OF SOCIAL ASPECTS IN SUSTAINABILITY AND INCREASING THE SCOPE OF THE PHENOMENON BEYOND THE ENVIRONMENTAL SPHERE: THE JOINT TREATMENT BY BRAZILIAN COMPANIES

Resumo: In recent years, one of the axes of social responsibility, the environmental issue, began to gain more prominence, as well as the dissemination of sustainability practices. The idea of the triple bottom line, the sustainability tripod, argues that an organization must have satisfactory results in the three economic, social and environmental spheres. According to this formulation, the social concern is contained within the theme of sustainability. The actions of social responsibility and sustainability have a strong social character and are intended to validate a change of position of the organizations, in an attempt to reduce a little the exclusive attention to actions of a financial nature, which aim only at economic sustainability and the return of its shareholders. The research aims to demonstrate that the phenomenon of sustainability, previously related to environmental actions, had its scope expanded, including also social aspects. Factors previously related only to social responsibility, are now evident in the understanding of sustainability. For this observation, a review of the literature and a survey of data in Brazilian companies was carried out, using an intentional sample. The research shows that the literature indicates an association between the phenomenon and the data reveal that the companies approach social practices and actions within their sustainability programs.

La idea del triple bottom line, el "trí­pode" de la sostenibilidad, defiende que una organización debe tener resultados satisfactorios en las tres esferas: económica, social y ambiental. De acuerdo con esa formulación, la preocupación social está contenida dentro del tema de la sostenibilidad. Las acciones de responsabilidad social y sostenibilidad poseen un fuerte carácter social y tienen la intención de validar un cambio de postura de las organizaciones, en el intento de disminuir un poco la atención exclusiva a las acciones de naturaleza financiera, que objetivan sólo la sostenibilidad económica y el retorno de las mismas sus accionistas (accionistas). La investigación tiene como objetivo demostrar que el fenómeno de la sostenibilidad, antes relacionado con las acciones ambientales, tuvo su alcance ampliado, incluyendo también aspectos sociales. Los factores antes referidos sólo a la responsabilidad social, pasan a ser evidenciados en el entendimiento de la sustentabilidad. Para tal observación, se realizó una revisión de la literatura y un levantamiento de datos en empresas brasileñas, utilizando una muestra intencional. La investigación demuestra que la literatura pasó a indicar una asociación entre los fenómenos y los datos revelan que las empresas abordan prácticas y acciones sociales dentro de sus programas de sustentabilidad.Nos últimos anos, um dos eixos da responsabilidade social, a questão ambiental, começou a ganhar mais destaque, assim como a divulgação de práticas de sustentabilidade. A ideia do triple bottom line, o "tripé" da sustentabilidade, defende que uma organização deve ter resultados satisfatórios nas três esferas: econômica, social e ambiental. De acordo com essa formulação, a preocupação social está contida dentro do tema da sustentabilidade. As ações de responsabilidade social e sustentabilidade possuem um forte caráter social e têm a intenção de validar uma mudança de postura das organizações, na tentativa de diminuir um pouco a atenção exclusiva í s ações de natureza financeira, que objetivam apenas a sustentabilidade econômica e o retorno de seus shareholders (acionistas). A pesquisa tem como objetivo demonstrar que o fenômeno da sustentabilidade, antes relacionado í s ações ambientais, teve o seu escopo ampliado, incluindo também aspectos sociais. Fatores antes relacionados apenas à responsabilidade social, passam a ser evidenciados no entendimento da sustentabilidade.
