Suicide covers a place of importance amongst the damages that affect populations due to the great family, psychosocial and economic impact, being the primary health care the first place where these individuals are treated. Thus, an analysis of the current scenario and the profile of   patients with suicidal behavior seen at the main care service of the municipality of Santa Maria - RS, may provide support for the improvement of treatment or prevention proposals. In this sense,   the objective of the study was to know the epidemiological profile of patients with suicidal behavior who access the psychosocial care service Santa Maria Acolhe and identify the triggering factors of such behavior. It was a research study of documental field, exploratory character and mixed analysis from data collection. To this end, data from gender, age, marital status, education, and triggering suicidal behavior were collected from the medical records of patients admitted to the service from June 2018 to June 2019. A total of 223 medical records were analyzed. Most of the patients with female suicidal behavior ranged from 25 to 59 years old, single, with low education. In addition, the main triggers of suicidal behavior were familial factors and diagnostic disorders. Promotion actions in mental health become fundamental for the prevention and control of suicidal behaviors, aiming to minimize possible deaths.
