O Brasil é o maior produtor e exportar mundial de soja. Entretanto, os polos de produção não se concentram em uma única região e vão se espalhando em busca de custos melhores de aquisição de terra. Inicialmente, a produção começou na região Sul, se espalhou pela região Centro-Oeste e atualmente avança pela região Norte e Nordeste. Entre as novas fronteiras agrícolas da produção de soja, destaca-se a área do cerrado denominada MATOPIBA, composta pelos estados do Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí e Bahia. Este estudo investiga a evolução da produção de soja em um desses estados, o Piauí e compara o seu desempenho em produção e logística com os três principais estados produtores: Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul e Paraná e o principal polo produtivo do Nordeste, o estado da Bahia. Para esse fim, foram criados 11 indicadores que abordam dados da produção e logística permitindo comparar o desenvolvimento da cadeia da soja no estado do Piauí em relação aos demais estados produtores. Os resultados indicam um crescimento da cadeia produtiva no Estado, porém os indicadores revelam a necessidade de maiores investimentos de infraestrutura e logística na região para que essa possa ser competitiva em relação aos demais polos produtores. Palavras-chave: Soja. Indicadores. Produção. Logística. ABSTRACT Brazil is the largest producer and export world of soy. However, production centers do not focus on a single region and spread to better land acquisition costs. Initially, the production began in the southern region, spread throughout the Midwest and currently advance through the North and Northeast region. Among the new agricultural boundaries of soy production, the cerrado area called Matopiba, composed by the states of Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia. This study investigates the evolution of soy production in one of these states, Piauí and compares its performance in production and logistics with the three main producing states: Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná and the main productive hub of the Northeast, the State of Bahia. For this purpose, 11 indicators were created that address production and logistics data allowing to compare the development of the soybean chain in the state of Piauí compared to other producing states. The results indicate a growth in the production chain in the state, but the indicators reveal the need for greater infrastructure and logistics investments in the region so that it can be competitive in relation to other producing poles. Key words: Soy.
