Summary: Throughout Antiquity there was attributed to Orpheus’ authorship a vast amount of literary and philosophical work; furthermore, he was also considered to be the founder of a multitude of cults among which were the τελεται, initiation rites which could grant one a privileged destination in the afterlife. This paper aims to present the more significant pieces of evidence from those Greek authors who asserted, explicitly or implicitly, that Orpheus was a philosopher, as well as those who dealt with him in philosophical contexts, in order to try to grasp the reasons for these authors’ choice of that type of reading of Orpheus.

Revista HypnosHypnos Journal2011-10-31info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://hypnos.org.br/index.php/hypnos/article/view/207Revista Hypnos; n. 27 (2011): Primeiros sábios, primeiros filósofos IIHypnos Journal; No. 27 (2011): Primeiros sábios, primeiros filósofos II2177-53461413-9138reponame:Hypnosinstname:Faculdade de São Bento (FSB)instacron:FSBporhttps://hypnos.org.br/index.php/hypnos/article/view/207/208Copyright (c) 2011 Alberto Bernabéinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessBernabé, Alberto2015-09-06T01:58:36Zoai:ojs.hypnos.org.br:article/207Revistahttps://hypnos.org.br/index.php/hypnosPRIhttps://hypnos.org.br/index.php/hypnos/oairachelgazolla@gmail.com2177-53461413-9138opendoar:2023-01-13T09:46:53.860772Hypnos - Faculdade de São Bento (FSB)false
