Spontaneous vegetation in croplands under different management practices established on natural grassland.

Resumo: This study verified the influence of tillage cropping systems established in natural grassland of RS (30º05’ S, 51º40’ O) upon the spontaneous vegetation. It was evaluated in three systems (no-tillage – NT; reduced tillage – RT; conventional tillage – CT) arranged in seven blocks, using the Braun-Blanquet scale, in May and October 2002. Environmental variables wereregistered. MULTIV and SYNCSA software were used for ordination, congruence and testinghypotheses analyses. NT had more species than RT and CT. Brachiaria plantaginea was themost abundant, presenting lower cover-abundance and frequency in NT. Desmodium incanum,Elephantopus mollis, Hypoxis decumbens, and Eryngium horridum, presented higher cover-abundance and frequency after three years of NT, functioning as key species for natural grassland restoration. Soil variables showed associations with vegetation. Cropping tillage systems affects the spontaneous vegetation, and species respond differently to these effects. The application of these results should be carried out with precaution, and long term studies are necessary.

Esta foi avaliada em trêssistemas de cultivo (semeadura direta – SD; preparo reduzido – PR; preparo convencional – PC), em sete blocos, em maio e outubro/2002, pela escala Braun-Blanquet. Variáveis ambientais foram registradas. Nas análises de ordenação, congruência e testes de hipóteses utilizaram-se os aplicativos MULTIV e SYNCSA. SD apresentou mais espécies do que PR e PC. Brachiaria plantaginea foi a mais abundante, com menor abundância-cobertura e freqüência em SD. Desmodium incanum, Elephantopus mollis, Hypoxis decumbens e Eryngium horridum apresentaram altas freqüência e cobertura após três anos de SD, podendo ser “plantas-chave” na restauração de campos. Variáveis de solo apresentaram associações com a vegetação. O manejo dos cultivos influencia a vegetação espontânea e as espécies respondem diferentemente a estes efeitos. A aplicação destes resultados deve ser feita com precaução, necessitando-se estudos de longo prazo.Iheringia.
